Happy Sabbath Church Family!
This Sabbath, we will gather around
the Lord’s table to participate in
Communion. We will take the bread
that represents Christ’s body, drink
the grape juice that represents His
blood, and remember the sacrifice He
made for our salvation. Yet
Communion does more than direct
our attention to the past. It also points us toward the
future.
The apostle Paul wrote, “For as often as you eat this
bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death
till He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). Those final words
are filled with hope: “till He comes.”
Every Communion service makes a declaration. We
declare that Jesus came into this world, gave His life
upon the cross, rose from the grave, and will come
again. The bread reminds us that His body was given for
us. The cup reminds us that His blood was shed for the
forgiveness of our sins. The promise reminds us that the
One who died for us will return for us.
This Sabbath’s message is titled “Until He Comes: Is
Jesus Really Coming Back?” as part of our sermon
series, “What Does the Bible Really Say?” We will
examine Christ’s promise to return and what that
promise means for the way we live today.
Before we participate in Communion, Scripture invites
us to examine ourselves. This does not mean that we
must make ourselves worthy before coming to the table.
None of us could ever do that. Instead, we come
honestly, confessing our sins, receiving Christ’s
forgiveness, and allowing the Holy Spirit to search our
hearts. Communion is not a reward for perfect people. It
is a reminder that imperfect people have a perfect
Savior.
If there is someone you need to forgive, a relationship
you need to restore, or a sin you need to surrender, bring
it to Jesus. His grace is greater than our failures.
As we eat the bread and drink from the
cup, let us remember: Jesus died,
Jesus rose, Jesus lives, and Jesus is
coming again. Until that glorious day,
may we remain faithful, love one
another, and proclaim His death “till
He comes.”
