One Family, Many Cultures, One God

Happy Sabbath, and welcome to the Lubbock Seventh-day Adventist Church! What a joy it is to have you worshiping with us today. Whether you are a longtime
member, a first-time visitor, or someone who has traveled many miles to be here, we are delighted to have you as part of our church family this Sabbath.

Today is a very special Sabbath because we have the privilege of hosting the Filipino Convocation! Many Filipino families and friends from across our conference and beyond have gathered here in Lubbock to worship, fellowship, and celebrate the goodness of the great God we serve. We are honored to welcome each of you and grateful for the opportunity to share this beautiful occasion together.

And let me remind you of something: You don’t have to be Filipino to enjoy this wonderful celebration! The program that has been prepared for today is an opportunity for all of us to experience the beauty of a different culture while celebrating the faith that unites us.

One of the things I love most about the family of God is that we don’t all look alike, speak the same language, eat the same food, or share the same traditions. Yet, despite our differences, we are united by something far greater: our love for Jesus Christ.

In Revelation 7:9, John describes a beautiful scene in heaven:

“After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”

Can you imagine that day? People from every country, every language, and every culture standing together before the throne of God! No divisions, no barriers, and no strangers. Just one enormous family, united in worshiping our Savior.

Today, we get a little glimpse of what heaven will look like. As we celebrate Filipino culture, we are reminded that God’s kingdom is much bigger than our own backgrounds and traditions. Heaven will not be a place where everyone looks and sounds like us. It will be a place where our beautiful diversity reflects the greatness of our Creator.

So today, let’s worship with joyful hearts, make new friends, enjoy the fellowship, and celebrate the God who brings us together.

To all our Filipino brothers and sisters, thank you for sharing your culture, your faith, and your love for Jesus with us.

Happy Sabbath, and welcome to a little taste of heaven!
