Can you believe it? School begins this Monday at Lubbock Junior Academy! Our opening theme will be Adventists In Step for Life which is related to Michelle Obama’s project called Let’s Move.

This year we have three goals:

Becoming:
1. in step with regular exercise.
2. in step with proper nutrition.
3. in step with Jesus Christ.

We will be studying the book, Steps to Christ, health lessons, and participating daily in physical activities and then on Sunday, September 25, we will be joining in a Special program with Seventh-day Adventists across the North American Division (NAD). The goal is for the members of the churches, schools and communities to walk a total of one million miles on that day.

Won’t you plan to join us? For more information see Pastor Leroy and “get on your walking shoes!”

Please continue to help us raise funds for school supplies needed throughout the school year by:

♦ Continue saving and donating your Box Tops
♦ Donating empty ink and toner cartridges and old cell phones

Please pray for us that we may have a Christ-centered and strong academic school year.

School Motto
Building A Better World, One Child at a time

School Philosophy

We believe that the best possible education is a balanced, Christ-centered one. Special emphasis is placed on helping each student establish and maintain a growing, loving relationship with Jesus. Through prayer and study students learn that the Bible is God’s infallible rule of faith for Christians, and that God is their Creator and Sustainer who wants their hearts and lives. Opportunities are regularly provided for sharing God’s love with one another and through service projects with others in the community.

We are Student Focused:
Lubbock Junior Academy in Lubbock, TX is a grades 1-8, multi-grade program where bright, curious boys and girls aim for a bar set high in an atmosphere of challenge and support that brings out their best as learners, and as people.

We practice DifferentiatedInstruction:
Differentiated instruction means that the teachers proactively plan varied approaches to what students need to learn, how they will learn it, and/or how they will show what they have learned in order to increase the likelihood that each student will learn as much as he or she can, as efficiently as possible.

We use Mastery Learning
It has been said that ninety percent of a learning population can master a subject when mastery learning methods are implemented. We use effective mastery learning methods when we determine how the learning and teaching process relates to the individual differences in learners. Mastery learning rests on “Take your time,” that is, take the time you need to learn something well. No student is to proceed to new material until basic prerequisite material is mastered.

LJA – End-of-School Picnic

Our Lubbock Junior Academy students have a tradition of writing their names and messages on the back of the t–shirts they wear during school programs. Common messages are, “ I ♥ you.” or “I’ll miss ya.” Students enjoy writing their notes and reading the notes written on their shirts.

This tradition is a lot like heirlooms. You can’t imagine life without them. Simple traditions like writing on a t-shirt strengthen our student’s sense of belonging. Last year’s 18 kids will forever belong to Lubbock Junior Academy and it will always hold a special place in their hearts.

It is as God’s children that we find our sense of belonging. Our children need to feel they are part of a larger family, like church school. Please give your child an opportunity to belong with the greatest kids in Texas at Lubbock Junior Academy.

LJA – Graduation, 2011

The first graduation of Lubbock Junior Academy was held the evening of May 15, 2011. The entire 8th grade class consisted of one student, Kaylee Jordan. As Kaylee walked down the aisle in the sanctuary, she wasn’t alone. She walked with dedicated church members whose hopes, prayers, and dreams were with her in every step she took.

Preceding Kaylee were her grades 1-7 classmates who will miss her and remember the positive influence she has had on their lives. Pastor Leroy Green, a special friend of our school, gave the graduation message. Kaylee paid tribute to her parents and shared some parting thoughts about her experiences at a church school. Again, those dedicated church supporters were the catalyst for the differences our church school has made to her.
A special award was given to Kaylee which emphasized her ability to recover when she is struck by negative events. She definitely deserved the Lubbock Junior Academy Perseverance Award. Her aim defines Kaylee. She does want to Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars. We are very proud of our very own Kaylee star.

LJA – Journey of Praise

It was a privilege for the students of LJA Lubbock Junior Academy to conduct the entire worship service on Sabbath, May 14. Our church is anxious to assist students in realizing their potential as future leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The church program started with an eight-minute video highlighting the North American Division’s goals to make Seventhday Adventist education exemplary and cutting edge. Next, the students walked in shaking the hands of members of the congregation. An exercise like this helps students realize they are a vital part of the church and have a responsibility to reach out to others. It can also help take away the timidness a young person might experience around strangers.

The church service included a warm welcome, an interesting children’s story, thought provoking prayer, a persuasive offertory and an antiphonal offertory prayer. These components helped everyone perceive that the students were presenting a program which could bless all, no matter the age. Even the offering was collected by our youngest students.

Our message was entitled, “Journey of Praise,” which included classic praise songs, kids’ favorites and timeless hymns. Between each song, students recited Bible praise verses and described how we can praise our Lord now and forever. Many of the songs used props and hand motions. All of the kids wore a “Journey of Praise,” shirt. Maybe the favorite song was when the school board members joined the school in singing, “Jesus is the Way to my Father’s House.” Board members raised red hearts as they sang the refrain, “Joy, Joy, Joy!”

Finally, the congregation was asked to sing the final praise song, “I Will Sing Praise.” It was beautiful to hear everyone joyfully singing. The angels couldn’t help but sing along with us.

The Mizpah (Genesis 31:49) was chosen as the closing prayer. Lord watch over our children and never let them forget they are an indispensable part of our church.

LJA – Journey of Praise

Dear Church Family, It is an honor and privilege to conduct the church service today. We would like you to join us in singing the hymns indicated in the church program and these two choruses. The lyrics are as follows.

Into My Heart – Sing before the Circle of Prayer
Into my heart, into my heart.
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.
Come in today, come in to stay.
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.

Out of My Heart – Sing after the Circle of Prayer
Out of my heart, out of my heart.
Shine out of my heart, Lord Jesus,
Shine out today, shine out always.
Shine out of my heart Lord Jesus.
