LJA students made gingerbread houses with graham crackers instead of gingerbread. We found directions, examples, and a royal icing recipe on Pinterest.
The students already knew that if we were going to do something that we have never tried before, it would probably be messy.
Each student was given two graham cracker squares of crackers and two squares with a point on top. These formed the four walls. Royal icing was then smeared on the cracker edges to ad-here the walls together.
Some of the students didn’t like how the white icing was spread to imitate a snowy effect on the walls of the houses. Can you imagine someone not liking snow?
The roofs were made of two graham cracker squares spread with more royal icing. I kept making more and more icing so each house could be decorated with mini marshmallows, M & M’s, and chocolate chips. We needed more royal icing to “glue” on all these special decorations.
About five of our cute graham cracker houses collapsed! The rest stayed up and looked darling. However, as the day went on, I noticed that some of the candy decorations started to disappear. There must have been some hungry house builders.
All of us at Lubbock Junior Academy pray for you and your family in the coming new year.
