Dear Church Family,
I hope this letter finds you blessed and in health.
May and Mother’s Day, what a wonderful combination. Mother’s might just be God’s crowning act of creation. I know some may take issue with the “might” part, and I can’t scripturally argue the point. Regardless, I would like to take a moment to think about Mary, the mother of Jesus. I’m very much looking forward to meeting this special mother. As a young woman, chosen to be the mother of the Son of God, she was given an amazing blessing and privilege. Often the greater the blessing the greater the responsibility. I imagine she must have prayed desperately as she strove to be the best mother she could be. It’s sad that Catholicism has attempted to deify Mary to the point that many “Protestants” completely avoid thinking or talking about her. I believe there are beautiful and heartwarming insights we can gain from contemplating the experience of a very human, very special Jewish mother named Mary.
When I meditate upon the suffering and death of Christ, I see an awe inspiring display of God’s love for mankind. Then I try to contemplate what Mary saw. This was not only the Son of God, the Messiah, but it was her Son. She had rocked him to sleep, held his pudgy hands, kissed his skinned knees and dried His tears. There is a deep and special love that God places in the heart of a mother. No matter our age, we are always our mother’s little child. I don’t believe Mary’s heart was any different. When she looked back at Jesus on the cross, not only did she see THE Messiah, but she saw HER Son, HER precious Jesus. I think it is essential that we have a similar perspective when we look back to Calvary. Not only was He, THE Messiah, He is YOUR Messiah and YOUR precious Jesus, who suffered and died out of His love for YOU, HIS beloved. I’m thankful for this lesson I learned by contemplating the love of God displayed in the heart of a mother.
Announcement: It is not without heartache that we have announced May will be our final month with our Lubbock church family. We have accepted a call back to the Northwest, to Pastor the Pendleton-Pilot Rock district in Upper Columbia Conference. We have prayed hard about it and are confident in the Lord’s leading. It will be a blessing to be within a few hours of our immediate family who all live in Washington State. I’m also looking forward to working with my father who is also a pastor in Upper Columbia Conference.
Thank you again for all your generosity and fellowship. I know the Lord has amazing plans for us all!
Sabbath, May 2, Lubbock Junior Academy will present “LJA Praises Jesus” for our Worship Service. Let’s support our young people as they invest their talents to lead us in worship.
Sabbath, May 9, is the day before Mother’s Day. I want to take time on this Sabbath and do something special for mothers. Mothers I hope you will come be with us, and children come ready to honor your mothers. “Mother’s Day Prayers”
Sabbath, May 16, during our 11 O’clock Worship Hour we will look at the prophecy of the “70 Weeks” found in Daniel 9. If more people understood this prophecy there would not be nearly the confusion there is today regarding Israel or the Secret Rapture. I think it is important that we take some time to refresh our knowledge of this foundational prophecy of Jesus Christ.
In John 10 Jesus refers to himself as the Good Shepherd, but he also mentions the thief, Satan, who comes to steal, kill and destroy. On Sabbath morning, May 23, we are going to look at what he may be stealing from you, and maybe how to “Thwart the Thief”.
Sabbath, May 30, will be my final message here as the pastor of the Lubbock church family. It has been a wonderful experience and privilege to be here. I really hope to see as many of you as possible as we look at the Joshua message, “Choose ye this day”. As Joshua was leaving he had some good advice for all of us.
I really hope you will come and fellowship with us a few more times before we have to say goodbye. I look forward to the day when there will be no more goodbyes, and when distance and travel will be no issue. Please pray for me as I pray for you!

During the month of May, our Health Ministry Team will present a seminar on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, May 5 through May 28, 7-8pm. “8 Laws to a Better and Longer Life.” Great health doesn’t have to be a confusing, painful experience. In fact, it is possible to obtain it simply and naturally. You will enjoy a short educational DVD, a cooking demonstration and a question and answer time.
