Every month there is something to celebrate. In April, we made kites in honor of National Kite Month. We learned that the exact date and origin of the kite is not known, but it is believed they were flown in China more than two thousand years ago. One legend suggests that when a Chinese farmer tied a string to his hat to keep it from blowing away in a strong wind, the first kite was born.
Each student made a simple sled kite. Ribbons and yarn made colorful and fun kite tails. Students decorated their kites with designs and slogans to make the kite uniquely theirs. Each kite was posted on the outside wall of our classroom.
Creating is one part of the school program. Strong creative thinking abilities are encouraged at Lubbock Junior Academy. These abilities are nourished with experiences and confidence-building responses to their attempts. We pray LJA students will use these skills to further the spreading of the Gospel, and to help make special things happen.
