“As long as people remember me forever, that will be enough for me” – Lil Wayne
None of us like to be forgotten. I remember in elementary school getting ready to play kickball. Our teacher asked my best friend and another student to pick the teams. I remember sitting in classes thinking, “Yes! I’ll get to be on my best friend’s team. “But to my heartbreak as a 4th grader my best friend forgot all about me until the other student chose me to be on their team.
“I forgot all about you.”
My heartbreak was crushing. My best friend forgot all about me. The only solace I had that day was that my team won but I was still very sad. I had been forgotten. I was not remembered.
Today, we will be participating in what we as Christians call the “Lord’s Supper”. This special supper and the events that transpired two millennia ago were solidified in a request made by Jesus. When Jesus and His disciples were celebrating the Passover Jesus asked them to remember Him. We follow the changes Jesus instituted to the Passover because we remember Him as our Savior.
What does it mean to remember Jesus? This week we will be studying this aspect of Jesus’ request when He said, “Do this in remembrance of me”. As you prepare for the Lord’s Supper what do you remember of Jesus and what actions do you take as a result? May we never forget that Jesus is our Savior.
Grace and Peace!
