How do you combine Christmas carols and baked potatoes? Lubbock Junior Academy made it happen! Thanks to the overwhelming support of church members & friends.

Last week LJA presented the Christmas musical cantata, “He Is Still The King of Kings”, a heartwarming Christmas message through music and narration in Southern Gospel style. Traditional carols mixed with gospel classics and a few new carols were included in the performance. LJA students sang with an instrumental track created by Gospel Music Hall of Fame songwriter Mosie Lister. Hayden McCombs ran the sound system during rehearsals and at the program. The LJA students sang and did better than their best.

After the program huge, hot-baked potatoes were served for a “donation”. A distinguished gentleman, dressed as Mr. Potato Head mingled among the diners singing their favorite Christmas Carol for a “donation”. There were also booths where children could use carved potato stamps to decorate paper. The younger set could also plant a potato, take it home and watch it grow.

Yes, Christmas carols and potatoes go very well together. Praising God can come in many endearing and fun ways!
