A GOD FOR THE NEW YEAR
Which promise about God do you like
most, as you start 2023?

1. Hiding Place
Feeling uncertain, afraid, in trouble or
danger? David did and said: “You are my
hiding place; You shall preserve me from
trouble; You shall surround me with
deliverance.” (Psalm 32: 7)

2. Fighter
In a tight place, facing impossible challenges on all sides?
The Israelites were and Moses said: “The Lord will fight
for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14: 14)

3. Parent
“He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His
wings you shall take refuge” (Psalm 91:4) Do you need
comfort, solace and protection? Your heavenly Father is
as a mother hen covering her chicks.

4. Friend in the Fire
Do you find yourself in fiery trials, as all humans do?
Looking into the fiery furnace, Nebuchadnezzar said: “I
see four men loose, walking in the fire and not hurt, and
the fourth is like the Son of God.” (Daniel 3:25)

5. Fortress
The psalmist says: “The Lord is my refuge and my
fortress; in Him I will trust.” (Psalm 91:2) Prepare your
fortress before battle or siege: daily read and pray! God
will give you sustenance and protection.

6. Planner
God said to the Jews in exile: “I know the plans I think
toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you
a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Roll with the
punches, make the best of the situation; God will bring a
good outcome.

7. Caretaker
As Elijah was exhausted, demoralized, and afraid, God
touched and prepared him water, bread, and rest: “An
angel touched him and said, “Arise and eat.” There was a
cake baked on coals, and a jar of water.” (1 Kings 19:5-7).
God will bring you care, comfort, and rest.

8. Best Friend
Again, in Psalms (139:3): “O Lord, You have searched me
and known me, and are acquainted with all my ways.”
God is a friend who intimately knows you and loves you
entirely.

9. Seeker of the Lost
When you lose your way, “The Son of Man came to seek
and to save what was lost” (Luke 19:10). There’s no coin,
sheep, or prodigal that He can’t seek, find, and bring
home.

10. Way-Maker
“Do not remember the former things or the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing: a road in the wilderness,
and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18-19) God will create
a magical new path for you every day of 2023!
