If there is one thing Dr. Simmons and Miss Zimmermann especially love about the Seventh-day Adventist Church, it has to be the world-wide mission program. Every Friday, they emphasize the area of the world where the Sabbath School mission offerings will be going. On Friday they may show a DVD of the mission work around the world or Dr. Simmons might tell about her unique adventures as an education consultant for the Inter-American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. We want the students to know that they can serve God and have an exciting experience at the same time by being a part of our church’s mission program.

Currently, Miss Zimmermann, is telling a continued story about the first Seventh-day Adventist missionary to China, Dr. Harry Miller. When Miss Z was young her parents loved to tell her the story of Dr. Miller. Now, she has the opportunity to tell a whole new crew of young people about this amazing physician.

Dr. Harry Miller had a résumé that turned heads. He was trained by the renowned surgeon John Harvey Kellogg at the beginning of the 20th century. His accomplishments included developing a unique thyroid surgery, inventing soymilk, and becoming the personal physician to Chiang Kai-shek, political and military leader of 20th century China. Dr. Miller was also a consultant for the World Health Organization.

Through learning about the life of Dr. Harry Miller, we pray our students will always have a missionary spirit in their lives. If you would like to learn more about Adventist missions check out http://advmission.org/
